Subject Description

This subject will read a number of contemporary popular texts, cultural events and practices, alongside or against popular cultural theory. Students will understand key aspects of the history, concepts and theories important to popular cultural analysis and production. They will engage with distinctions and commonalities between forms of popular culture and the dynamics of broader cultural practices, and will appreciate the importance of power, access, audience, taste and subjectivity in the field of popular culture.

Assessment

Written work of not more than 5000 words.
