Subject Description

Is Australia postcolonial? What does it mean to claim a postcolonial identity? This interdisciplinary subject will enable students to understand important debates relating to the phenomenon of post-colonialism across a range of cultural texts and institutional sites. Topics include: definitions of post-colonialism, the politics of identity and speaking positions, white ethnicity, globalisation, New Age environmentalisms and new primitivisms, museums and memorials, indigenous tourism, diasporic music and street styles, post-colonialism and policy, and the postcolonial avant garde.

Assessment

Written work of not more than 5000 words.
