Subject Description

This subject will focus upon historical problems that necessitate both textual evidence and material evidence for study and interpretation. Semester 1 will concentrate on problems in the earlier Near Eastern and Greek world, and may include topics such as writing, colonisation, Homer and the Iron Age, tyranny. Students on completion of the subject should have acquired an increased ability to utilise both literary sources and archaeological material for the study of ancient cultures.

Assessment

Written work, tests and examinations totalling no more than 6000 words.
