Subject Description

Literary and historical texts illustrating aspects of Babylonian culture; introduction to Akkadian epigraphy. Students on completion of the subject should have acquired a deeper knowledge of Akkadian grammar; an initial knowledge of the principles of Akkadian philology and epigraphy; be introduced to essential aspects of ancient Mesopotamian and Near Eastern culture through the reading of genuine texts of various kinds.

Assessment

Regular exercises and class tests (30%) and a 2-hour examination (70%).
