Subject Description

The archaeology of prehistoric cultures from the emergence of hunter-gatherer societies to the earliest sedentary communities. Chronologically the subject covers the period from about 4 million years ago to 4000 B. C., although more recent Australian hunter-gatherer communities will also be studied. Geographically, the focus is the Old World and Australia.

Assessment

3000 words of written work (50%) and a 2-hour examination or equivalent (50%).
