Subject Description

The historical origins contrasted and one earliest construction of four representative religious movements are studied each year [in 1996: Judaism, Manichaeism, Christianity and Islam]. Students on completion of this subject should have acquired an enhanced understanding of the dynamic relationship between the historical origins of various religious movements and the way their earliest adherents constructed those origins. An understanding of the function of religion in ancient society should result.
