Psychology is the study of behaviour in both humans and animals. Psychologists study why people are the way they are or do the things they do. Psychologists also study abnormal behaviour−how it occurs and how it can be treated.

Psychology has been a part of a tradition of academic excellence and research achievement at The University of Melbourne since the late 1800's. The Department of Psychology, formally established in 1946, is also called the School of Behavioural Science and is part of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences. It is one of the largest departments of psychology in the country. The School offers a comprehensive undergraduate program including a wide range of elective options in third year. For those who are interested in continuing their study it also offers an Honours program as well as coursework and research higher degrees.
