 1. Prerequisites

The normal prerequisite for entry into the American Studies major is 50 points at first-year level. Please note that you should chose your first year subject carefully to ensure that you have the appropriate prerequisites for the departments that offer the subjects of the program. If you are not sure, contact the relevant department.

 2. Requirements for a major

A major in American Studies requires the completion of at least five subjects at second and third-year level, which must include the core subject 'Contemporary American Society and Culture', together with four subjects selected from the list of second and third year subjects below.

 3. Entry to Honours

An Honours program in American Studies does not exist at present. Several departments, however, do offer fourth-year subjects with American subject content. These include: Political Science, History, English and Fine Arts. See Political Science Departmental Handbook for further details.
