Handbook 1997 : Faculty of Science : Zoology
A specialisation in Zoology subjects can lead to a wide range of careers in life science including biomedical science and conservation biology. Zoology subjects are designed to provide students with a basic understanding of the classification, diversity, functioning, ways of life and evolution of animals; and to develop some depth of understanding of selected aspects of animal life including ecology (particularly marine ecology), behaviour, physiology, reproductive biology and development, conservation biology, Australian mammal biology, evolutionary biology and zoology of the human species.
For all areas the suggested subjects are:
Chemistry 610-121 + 610-122 or 610-141 + 610-142 or 610-161 + 610-162
Statistics 619-100
Additional 100-level subjects from Biology, Earth Sciences, Geography, Mathematical Sciences, Physics, Psychology, etc.
Zoology subjects at 200-level may be studied either as lecture-and-practical combinations, or as lecture-only subjects. Students intending to pursue major studies of Zoology at 300-level should select the lecture-and-practical combinations of 200-level subjects. Students are advised to take note of prerequisites for the 300-level subjects when selecting 200-level subjects.
