Objectives: | On completion of this subject, students should have acquired an understanding of the principles and the applications of geological methods relating to the study of, particularly, sedimentary rocks. | |
Content: | Introductory mineralogy and sedimentary petrology. Principles of stratigraphy, including lithostratigraphy, biostratigraphy and sequence stratigraphy. principles of palaeontology. Interpretation of aerial photographs and digital imagery; use of the electromagnetic spectrum in remote sensing; data acquisition and analysis. | |
Assessment: | A 2-hour end-of-semester written examination; a 2-hour practical examination or reports totalling up to 1500 words. | |
