Objectives: | At the completion of this subject, students should:

Content: | Aspects of the following topics will be considered: data models (relational, network, hierarchical, entity-relationship, and object-oriented), commercial data manipulation languages including structured query language (SQL), view definitions, database design (including update anomalies and normalisation), database administration (security, integrity, and concurrency), concurrency control, transaction processing, embedded SQL, and database application programming interfaces; other database concepts. | |
Assessment: | End of semester written examination of up to three hours, one group project taking up to forty hours. The weighting of the assessment components will be announced at the commencement of the subject. | |
