600-302 Research Project in Environmental Science

600-201 Physical Environment; 600-202 Introduction to Environmental Issues, 600-301 Problem Solving in Environmental Science.

Semester 2

Contact:

80 hours of laboratory and field work, including 10 hours of tutorials. This subject will not be available after 1997

Objectives:

On completion of this subject, students should:

  • have completed an integrated research project in environmental science through working in small multi-disciplinary groups;

  • have developed the ability to present publicly results of environmental science research.

Content:

Students will undertake an original investigation of an environmental problem, working in small groups. The project will involve field or laboratory observation, accessing of data bases and a literature review of an approved topic. All projects will emphasise the interaction between the physical and biological environments.

Assessment:

Individual's contribution toward the group project (15%), a written report of 3000 to 5000 words (70%) and oral presentations before an audience of students and teaching staff (15%).
