Content: | Historical background; choice of therapeutic target; screening; rational drug design; molecular modelling; quantitative structure-activity relationships; combinatorial libraries; peptide-based drug design; recombinant proteins as drugs; novel delivery systems; in vitro and in vivo assays; high throughput screening; impact of molecular biology on drug discovery. | |
Assessment: | A 2-hour end-of-semester written examination; a 2000 word project report (based on work carried out during the project tutorials). Weighting of the individual assessment components will be made known at the commencement of the subject. | |
