Contact: | Five semester length units, each of 13 x 2 hour sessions, and a research project requiring regular supervision meetings. | |
Subject Description: | The principal objectives are to provide students with opportunities to (i) develop an understanding of a representative range of substantive areas in psychology, (ii) develop an ability to read and contribute to relevant research in at least one area of psychology, and (iii) acquire an understanding of the practice and ethics of psychology in professional settings. There are three compulsory units: Assessment and Professional Skills: Advanced Design and Data Analysis, and Theories in Psychology. Students choose one optional unit from Current Issues in Quantitative; Biological; or Cognitive Psychology and one chosen from Current Issues in: Quantitative; Developmental; or Social Psychology. The research topics available reflect the interests of members of the department and may include areas such as Perception, Quantitative Methods, Problem Solving and Decision Making, Psychology of Language, Social Psychology and Health Psychology. | |
Assessment: | A research project of no more than 10,000 words (45%) and five units (11%) each. For all units: either a final examination of up to two hours at the end of the year or the conclusion of the unit, or a practical report or essay of up to 3000 words in length, or any combination of these. | |
