Subject Description:

The principal objectives are to provide students with opportunities to: (i) extend the knowledge and skills acquired in first year of psychology, (ii) develop the ability to critically examine basic psychological concepts and theories in the content areas of research methods, brain mechanisms and behaviour, social, developmental and cognitive psychology and sensation and perception, (iii) acquire knowledge about methodologies used in psychological research, (iv) develop skills in data analysis, (v) acquire practical skills in conducting and reporting psychological research, and (vi) develop a background of relevant knowledge and skills on which to base further study of psychology.

Assessment:

Six hours of written end-of-semester examinations; six laboratory reports, of no more than 2000 words each. Pass Criteria: To obtain a pass in Psychology 2 and Psychology 3 subjects, students are normally required to meet the following criteria:
  • attempt all assessment components of the subject;

  • attend at least 75% of the total number of laboratory classes, and

  • obtain a pass in each section of the subject. (A student who has failed one or two sections may, at the discretion of the departments Examination Board, obtain a pass if (i) a strong academic performance is achieved in the remaining sections or (ii) if given the opportunity to successfully complete a supplementary assessment in one or more sections.
