730-319 Law and Society in Korea

Prerequisite/s:

Torts and the Process of Law; History and Philosophy of Law. No knowledge of Korea or the Korean language is presumed.

Subject Description:

Topics will be drawn from the following: The role of law in Korean society; The impact of Confucian and Western legal concepts; Litigation and other forms of dispute resolution; The history of law in Korea; The structure of the legal system and sources of law; The constitutional system; The legislative process and law reform; Administrative decision-making and judicial review; and specific studies of areas of law drawn from: The legal profession; Family Law; Tort Law; Contract and Commercial Law.

Assessment:

If the enrolment is less than 50 students: either a Research Assignment of 5000 words (100%) or Final Exam 3 hours (100%). OR If the enrolment is more than 50 students: A Final Exam 3 hours (100%).

Prescribed Texts:

Printed Materials will be issued by the Law School.
