39 hours of lectures

Objectives:

At the conclusion of this subject the student should:

  • be competent in the theory and use of calculations required for plane surveys and setting out;

  • be familiar with the theory of computer packages for survey data reduction and plotting;

  • be aware of the full range of disciplines within the science of geomatics.

Content:

Plane Surveying: area and volume computations, curve setting out for route surveying, automated 'field-to-finish' surveys, topographic surveys, use of computer packages for survey data reduction and plotting. Introduction to GPS.

Professional Aspects: Introduction to the geomatics profession and the different disciplines such as geodesy, cadastral surveying, engineering surveying, hydrography, mining surveying, land development, remote sensing, land and geographic information systems and photogrammetry.
