26 hours of lectures and 13 hours of demonstration, laboratory and seminar work

Objectives:

The student should gain an understanding of the structure and function of the skeletal, muscular and sensory systems of the human body, insofar as they respond to the forces of impact, vibration and acceleration. Elementary design procedures for sound isolation and protection should be understood.

Content:

Structure and function of the body. Effects of forces on the human body. Hearing and the auditory environment. Vision and illumination. Structural and functional biomechanics. Respiration and the atmospheric environment. Temperature regulation and the thermal environment. Effects and control of ionising radiation.

Assessment:

Written assignments, laboratory and seminar work up to a total of 5000 words, or equivalent; a two hour end of semester written examination.
