Objectives: | On completion, students will understand the theoretical basis of predetermined motion time systems and will have learned how to apply several of these systems in estimating time for industrial tasks. Students will understand some of the problems associated with people working in industry, including those of heavy work, inspection processes and shift work. | |
Content: | Work Study: Method Study, Work Measurement, theoretical basis of Predetermined Motion Time Systems, precision, Union attitudes, practical work with MTM and Modapts. Organisation of workstations. Biological work measurement: heavy physical work, codes of practice, light work, industrial inspection, work/rest cycles, problems of shift work; operator variability, quality of performance, pacing of production lines, learning, fatigue, age effects. | |
Assessment: | Two practical examinations on methods study and predetermined motion time systems. One two-hour examination on the course work. | |
