421-313 Concrete Theory and Design

18 hours lectures, 6 hours practice classes, 3 hours laboratory classes, 12 hours design

Objectives:

At the conclusion of this subject, students will be able to carry out designs of reinforced and prestressed concrete frames consisting of beams and columns.

Content:

Flexural strength theory of structural concrete members with passive and/or active reinforcement, shear, deflection, anchorage and stress development; Strength theory of reinforced concrete columns, including the use of interaction diagrams and loading lines to deal with slenderness effects. Concrete design project. Assessment:

Assessment:

One two hour written examination (75%) Practical work and designs submitted during the semester (25%).
