411-309 Process Equipment and Design 2

39 hours, comprising 26 hours of lectures and 13 hours of tutorials

Objectives:

Students satisfactorily completing this course will be able to:

  • select and design some items of equipment used in heat exchange and two phase contacting processes;

  • make appropriate interconnection of items of equipment.

Content:

Principles of pipework layout. Design of heat exchangers; special types and thermosyphon reboilers. Hydraulic design of plate and packed columns for gas-liquid contacting. Comparison of plate vs. packed columns, and corrosion and materials selection.

Assessment:

One 2-hour examination at the end of semester two.
