411-208 Chemical Engineering Projects 1

Prerequisite/s:

Successful completion of 618-171 Mathematics 1P and 618-172 Mathematics 1Q or equivalent and Chemistry 610-141 and 610-142 or equivalent, and 411-201 Transport Phenomena 1. 411-102 Chemical Process Analysis 1 and 411-103 Chemical Process Analysis 2 are either prerequisites or corequisites.

Semester 2

Contact:

39 hours, comprising 3 hours per week

Objectives:

Students completing this unit will:

  • be familiar with the handling and use of a range of basic scientific apparatus and engineering equipment of relevance to chemical engineering;

  • have gained experience in the practical application of selected basic chemical engineering principles;

  • have learnt how to carry out, record and report on an experimental investigation.

Content:

Students undertake a predetermined number of experimental projects involving aspects of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, mass transfer, process control, comminution and microbiology.

Assessment:

Performance during project work (30%), reports and presentations (70%).
