Handbook 1997 : Faculty of Education : Psychology
Psychology subjects are offered by the School of Behavioural Science in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences.
Studies in Psychology contribute to the preparation of a classroom teacher and also provide the initial training of a psychologist. The complete sequence available to students enrolled in theBEd(Secondary), BEd(Primary) and BSocSc(InfoMgt) courses has been accredited by the Australian Psychological Society. Thus students who complete this sequence may, with further study, become psychologists. Students completing BEd (Primary) or BEd (Secondary) courses therefore may have the opportunity to enter two allied professions-teaching and, with further study, Psychology.
Faculty of Education students who have completed Psychology 1 (512-100) should enrol in Psychology 2 (512-200), those who have completed Psychology 2 (512-200) should enrol in Psychology 3A (512-301).
Departmental Requirements: Prerequisites are listed in individual subject descriptions. The following subjects are available in 1997: Psychology 1 (512-100), 2 (512-200), 3A (512-301).
Studies in Psychology have proved to be extremely popular. In order to maintain the quality of the subject and the level of practical involvement within the available resources, there is a quota for selection into Psychology 1 and 2. Admission into Psychology 2 will be assessed on academic merit, with reference to Psychology 1 results.
