Information Management

Information Management subjects are available to students enrolled in the BEd (Secondary) and BSocSc (InfoMgt) courses. The Information Management sequence is currently being phased out.

In order to take Teaching Method in Business Studies D (Information Management), students must have completed Information Management B1 and B4, or approved equivalents. In order to take Teaching Method in Business Studies D (Business Management) students must have completed Information Management B8 and one of B6, C1, C2, or approved equivalents.

The completion of other Information Management C-level subjects will provide a three-year specialisation which is an advantage for both teaching and working in the field of commerce.

Information Management C7 (Information Management Law) and C11, C12, C13, C14 (Supervised Professional Practice) are only available to students enrolled in the BSocSc (InfoMgt) course.

Students enrolled in the BSocSc (InfoMgt) course are expected to gain a pass or credit in IMC11 before enrolment in the subjects IMC1, C2, C3, C5, C6 and C7.

The third year of the full time BSoc Sc(Info Mgt) course comprises four supervised professional practice subjects, and is known as the Cooperative Education Program. This is defined by the World Council and Assembly of Cooperative Education as a 'strategy of applied learning which is a structured program, developed and supervised by an educational institution in collaboration with one or more employing organisations, in which relevant productive work is an integral part of a student's academic program and is an essential component of that final assessment.

Students are assisted by University staff in finding approved employment and are supervised in that employment by both a workplace supervisor and an academic supervisor from the University. You are required to complete a minimum of 36 weeks of professional practice to meet course requirements for both Information Management C11: Supervised Professional Practice 1 and Information Management C12: Supervised Professional Practice 2; this practice may be undertaken in more than one employment setting. Additionally, two reports based on these experiences (Information Management C13: Supervised Professional Practice Project 1 and Information Management C14: Supervised Professional Practice Project 2) are required to complete the period of supervised practice.

Students with substantial, relevant and recent work experience may apply for advanced standing (credit) for the employment component of the practice (i.e. Supervised Professional Practice 1 and 2).

The four supervised professional practice subjects are available only to students enrolled in the BSocSc(Info Mgt) course.
