733-303 Legal Studies C3: the Civil Litigant in Society

Two 1-hour lectures and a 1-hour seminar each week, except during BEd (Secondary) block periods of School Experience

Content:

A study of the process of litigation, in the context of aspects of tort law such as personal injury actions. Topics will include: intentional torts, negligence, defamation, civil procedure, and alternative approaches to and method of resolving disputes.

Assessment:

Seminar performance (10%), research essay of 5000 words (40%); and a 2-hour final examination (40%). Students must perform satisfactorily in each area of assessment.
