491-417 Design and Graphic Communication D

Priority is given to BEd (Visual Arts) course students.

Six hours of lecture/tutorial/studio/workshop or field study sessions each week, and a total of 10 days Field Experience

Objectives:

On completion of the subject the student should be able to:

  • demonstrate awareness of the consequences of their actions as designers;

  • demonstrate an understanding of the designed environment and the need to contribute positively through participation in design decision-making at the personal, educational and community levels;

  • apply their knowledge of the communication and design processes to developing effective secondary school programs in 2D and 3D design or graphic communication; and

  • demonstrate advanced design and presentation skills.

Content:

The two major areas of study are: Historical and Sociological Aspects of Design; and Design Workshops and Projects: further development of concepts and skills relevant to graphic, product or environmental design. Students undertake 10 days of related Field Experience.

Assessment:

One written research project of 1000 words (10%) and a folio of nine selected projects in Design Workshops and Projects at the completion of the subject (all projects weighted equally) (10% each).
