491-413 Wood and Metal D

Contact:

6 hours of lecture/demonstration/seminar/studio sessions and four hours studio access each week, and a total of 10 days Field Experience

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • demonstrate competence to plan and undertake an individual intensive course of study in Wood or Metal, or a combination of both;

  • demonstrate the development of skill acquisition, design application and personal expression within the discipline through the exploration of either or both functional and conceptual form and ideas;

  • show self-reliance and enthusiasm to research and explore the relevant information and materials to design and create works; and

  • understand the need for healthy and safe work practices within the context of the school and studio environments.

Content:

The study emphasises the student's independence, ability to think divergently and research to solve design and technical problems and explore the opportunity to develop additional skills related to their work. The student is required to devise a program or work that reflects their self expression; knowledge of the diversity of Wood or Metal, or both; and the safe and skilled use of machinery. Information is related to the school and private studio environments. Students undertake 10 days of related Field Experience.

Assessment:

A folio of at least five completed objects which relate to the area of specific study and appropriate supporting information, e.g. studio resource book (80%), a research project equivalent to 2000 words (20%). Students must satisfactorily complete the Field Experience component.
