Two 1-hour lectures and one 3-hour practical session each week, including laboratories, gymnasium activities, outdoor settings, or other equivalent activities, e. g. excursions, resource centre visits

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • undertake an independent research investigation in health, physical education or environmental studies;

  • understand the development of health and environmental agencies and their delivery at a local, national and global level;

  • understand the development of technological devices and processes and their impact on health and the environment; and

  • evaluate current health and environmental issues in the context of a multicultural Australia.

Content:

A study of a range of relevant topics which may include the following: health and environmental agencies and their delivery of services; analysis of current health and environmental issues such as children's sport, AIDS, global warming, biodiversity; a study of technology relevant to health and the environment.

Assessment:

One major essay or assignment or research investigation of 4000 words (45%); two essays or assignments of 1500 words each (25%); two 1-hour tests (20%) and several short tests totalling two hours (10%).
