485-323 Science Education and the Curriculum 2

Two 2-hour workshops each week for half a semester

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • understand a range of contemporary issues in the sciences; and

  • devise ways of communicating them to others, particularly in secondary schools.

Content:

A range of contemporary ideas and issues in the sciences and science-related areas will be studied, together with skills in communicating such ideas, especially in secondary schools. Students will complete one module, chosen from a range such as industrial chemistry, national environmental issues, physical concepts, human manipulation of biological resources, computer applications and simulations.

Assessment:

One assignment of approximately 2000 words (100%) or two assignments of approximately 1000 words each (50% each).
