485-318 School Studies C51: Mathematics - A Practical Approach

A 90-minute seminar/workshop each week

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • demonstrate a knowledge of current educational practices; and

  • demonstrate organisational and planning skills that will enable them to operate effective primary mathematics programs.

Content:

This subject will involve students in examining current mathematics teaching and learning practices in primary schools. Students will consider issues related to operating effective mathematics programs, including: planning, organisation, implementation and evaluation.

Assessment:

Two major projects totalling 3000 words: (1) Teaching Methods Research assignment (60%); and (2) Unit Planning assignment (40%).
