483-429 Teaching Method in Languages Other Than English (Lote) 2D

Teaching Method in LOTE 2D is only available for students enrolled in Teaching Method in LOTE 1D.

Prerequisite/s:

  • Teaching Method in LOTE 1D: Teaching Method LOTE 1C and successful completion of, or concurrent enrolment in, 3 years of approved tertiary language study at post-VCE level.

  • Teaching Method in LOTE 2D: Teaching Method LOTE 2C and successful completion of, or concurrent enrolment in, 3 years of approved tertiary language study at post-VCE level.

Pre/Corequisite/s:

(For each Teaching Method D) Satisfactory completion of Education Studies C, School Experience C and a minimum of 250 points credit in the course. Concurrent enrolment in Education Studies D and School Experience D12.

Teaching Method in LOTE 1D: 32 hours of lectures/workshops. Teaching Method in LOTE 2D: an additional 20 hours of lectures/workshops

Content:

A study of concepts and practices in second language teaching and learning, with emphasis on developing teachers as reflective practitioners, capable of fostering in their students communicative competence in a new language and of making the experience of language learning an educational one. Students will be introduced to commonly used texts and materials and will be taught a range of techniques for employing them.

Assessment:

Teaching Method in LOTE 1D: participation in class including completing nominated class tasks (30%); assignments totalling approximately 2000 words or equivalent for a practical assignment (70%). Teaching Method in LOTE 2D: assignments to be completed for both languages.
