483-428 Teaching Method in Visual Arts D

This subject is only available as a Double Method to BEd (Visual Arts) students.

Teaching Method in Visual Arts C.

Pre/Corequisite/s:

(For each Teaching Method D) Satisfactory completion of Education Studies C, School Experience C and a minimum of 250 points credit in the course. Concurrent enrolment in Education Studies D and School Experience D12.

Two hours of lecture/seminar sessions each week plus individual and group project work equivalent to a total of 60 hours over the year

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • demonstrate an understanding of current developments in visual arts curriculum theory and planning including approaches to defining the visual arts, characteristics of learning in the visual arts, cross-curriculum perspectives, relationships with other art forms, program planning and assessment; and

  • design, teach and evaluate extended and coherent units of work appropriate for all levels of secondary schooling both in practical studies, using various visual arts media, and in theoretical studies.

Content:

Theories of visual arts education; models of curriculum development, including national and Victorian Curriculum and Standards documents; VCE Study Designs and support materials; curriculum materials at the school level; strategies, methods and resources for teaching and learning; assessment, evaluation and reporting processes.

Assessment:

Written work totalling 4000 words or equivalent. Tasks will comprise a seminar presentation (25%), essays (50%), and the preparation of teaching and learning materials (25%).
