476-411 Teaching Method in Business Studies 1D

Pre/Corequisite/s:

  • (For each Teaching Method D) Satisfactory completion of Education Studies C, School Experience C and a minimum of 250 points credit in the course. Concurrent enrolment in Education Studies D and School Experience D12.

  • Teaching Method in Business Studies 1C and successful completion of or concurrent enrolment in subjects in at least one of the following areas: Accounting - Accounting B11 and B22, or an approved equivalent; Business Management - Information Management B8 and one of Information Management B6, C1 and C2, or an approved equivalent; Economics - Economics B11 and B22, or an approved equivalent; Information Management - Information Management B1 and B4, or an approved equivalent; Legal Studies - Legal Studies B1 and either Legal Studies B2 or B3, or an approved equivalent.

One 1-hour lecture and one 1-hour seminar in each of 15 weeks

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • demonstrate an understanding of the institutional context and processes of curriculum in Middle School Commerce and in one of the five senior secondary subjects in the field of Business Studies; and

  • design, teach and evaluate extended and coherent units of work in Middle School Commerce and in one of the five senior secondary subjects in the field of Business Studies.

Content:

Curriculum Frameworks; national curriculum; curriculum handbooks at the school level. VCE; Study Designs; Curriculum Development and Support Materials in specific VCE studies. Models of curriculum and their application in one senior subject in Business Studies; teaching that subject under VCE; strategies, methods and resources for teaching and learning in relation to the prevailing model of curriculum.

Assessment:

Written assignments totalling 2000 words or equivalent.
