Note: | This subject is available only to students undertaking Year 4 of the BEd (Primary) course as a post-initial or in-service year of study. It provides an opportunity for teachers to meet their Year 4 School Studies requirement through attendance at weekend classes. Students should be working in, or have ready access to, a primary school. Credit will not be granted for this subject and for School Studies D, D1 or D10. | |

Objectives: | On completion of this subject students should be able to:

Content: | Exploration of possibilities for integrating the primary school curriculum (following curriculum and teaching studies which tend to present the primary school curriculum as a set of discrete subject areas). A conceptual framework for curriculum integration in the primary school developed through a practical, workshop approach. Two school-based projects: one on 'Curriculum Integration' and the other on 'Teachers' Practice'. | |
Assessment: | A 2000 word reflective journal submitted at designated times (30%); 3000 words of planning, documentation and evaluation of an integrated curriculum unit (40%); 1000 word report on a teaching improvement project and 1000 words of an associated literature review (30%). | |
