Objectives: | On completion of this subject students should be able to:

Content: | An overview of educational theory and practice to enable students to develop their initial perspectives of teaching through an understanding of children, schools and society. An introductory examination of the philosophical and sociological bases of education, linked to experiences in schools. An overview of developmental theories which have contributed to knowledge of how children come to understand their world and their social reality. | |
Assessment: | A 1500 word summative paper arising from a journal (40%); two written reports of 1500 words each of investigative activities (60%). | |
