468-402 Development and Change in Organisations

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • critically evaluate models of organisational, group and individual change in terms of underlying assumptions and principles;

  • analyse, and evaluate for particular contexts, selected theoretical models and strategies for change in organisations;

  • analyse external and internal forces for and against change that influence organisations; and

  • identify areas for productive research in organisational change.

Content:

The political, economic and social context of VET in Australia; current forces for and against change in VET in organisations; formal and informal processes and practices which influence organisations; the assumptions and principles of technological, political and normative re-educative models of change; contemporary strategies for change, including team-based structures, re-engineering and quality approaches; and different perspectives on change.

Assessment:

A case study of 3000 words (40%) and an assignment of 4500 words or an equivalent individually negotiated project (60%).
