468-303 Managing Learning in the Workplace

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • analyse the processes and roles involved in managing education and training;

  • examine the inter-relationships of planning, human resource management and education and training within organisations;

  • compare selected models of leadership particularly in terms of their capacity to account for the role of personal values, attitudes and abilities; and

  • critically evaluate the application of specific management principles in education and training settings.

Content:

An exploration of the role of education and training within organisations, particularly in respect to strategic planning and human resource management, including such functions as performance management, industrial relations, remuneration and human resource planning. An examination of models of leadership and processes and competencies relating to the management of education and training in contemporary organisations.

Assessment:

An essay of 3000 words (40%) and a case study of 4500 words (60%).
