468-301 Models of Learning and Curriculum Design

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • analyse major curriculum metaphors and theoretical perspectives on learning relevant to VET;

  • analyse selected programs and curriculum models;

  • evaluate learning strategies to particular settings; and

  • evaluate practices in a particular context.

Content:

An historical review of learning theories from the following perspectives: behaviouristic, cognitive, humanistic and cultural/critical; the role of metaphors in curriculum; reflective models of learning from humanistic and critical perspectives; situated learning; and models of program design.

Assessment:

A paper of 3000 words (40%) and an essay of 4500 words (60%).
