468-212 Practices in Technology 3

Participants are required to be able to complete a concurrent Workplace Learning Agreement.

Timetable:

Semester 1 and 2

Contact:

40 hours including a minimum of two hours per week for ten weeks in an approved workplace setting

Objectives:

On completion of this subject participants should be able to:

  • design, make and evaluate technological products using a variety of appropriate computer technologies;

  • demonstrate understanding and capability in processes of computer assisted design, development and manufacture of products;

  • demonstrate teaching and learning strategies appropriate to safe, appropriate and competent use of computer controlled technologies; and

  • design, implement and evaluate teaching and learning programs using computer technologies.

Content:

An introduction to the study of: design methods used to develop a technological device; understanding of specification and performance criteria; various computer hardware and software applications enabling investigation, design, modelling, analysis and monitoring of the development of a prototype of a technological device; specification and manufacturing using numerically controlled machinery; the impact of computer technologies in teaching and learning programs; computer technologies into the classroom/workshop.

Assessment:

A portfolio of work equivalent to 1800 words (50%) and a critical reflection report of 1800 words drawn from the workplace learning agreement (50%).
