468-203 Learning in Organisations

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • analyse education and training strategies within organisations in terms of selected theories of adult learning;

  • distinguish formal and informal learning processes in organisations;

  • explain the distinctions between individual, team and organisational learning, and on and off-the-job learning in terms of selected theories and frameworks; and

  • identify significant attributes of organisations that influence education and training.

Content:

Examination of learning processes in organisations - particularly formal and informal learning, individual, team and organisational learning, on-the-job and off-the-job learning; analysis of learning processes in terms of selected learning theories, including adult learning theory, situated learning and action learning; the influence of organisational attributes on learning.

Assessment:

A paper of 1800 words (50%) and an essay of 1800 words (50%).
