468-189 Practices in Technology 1

Participants are required to be able to complete a concurrent Workplace Learning Agreement.

Semester 1 and 2

Contact:

40 hours including a minimum of two hours per week for ten weeks in an approved workplace setting

Objectives:

On completion of this subject participants should be able to:

  • demonstrate safe, appropriate and competent use of hand tools with a variety of materials and processes;

  • demonstrate understanding and adopt appropriate workshop maintenance and management practices;

  • demonstrate teaching and learning strategies appropriate to practical workshop activities for the diverse needs of participants; and

  • design and implement teaching and learning programs.

Content:

An introduction to the teaching of safe operation of hand tools, materials and processes in technology; management and maintenance of hand tools and basic equipment in a workshop environment; teaching and learning strategies appropriate to a workshop environment; designing and implementing programs in the workplace.

Assessment:

A portfolio of work equivalent to 1800 words (50%) and a critical reflection report of 1800 words drawn from the workplace learning agreement (50%).
