468-118 Practices in Technology 2

Contact:

40 hours including a minimum of two hours per week in an approved workplace setting

Objectives:

On completion of this subject participants should be able to:

  • demonstrate safe, appropriate and competent use of power tools and static machinery operation with a variety of materials and processes;

  • demonstrate understanding and adopt appropriate workshop supervision, maintenance and management practices in accordance with legal requirements of power tools and static machinery operation in a training/educational environment;

  • demonstrate teaching and learning strategies appropriate to practical workshop activities using powered machinery for the diverse need of participants; and

  • design and implement and evaluate teaching and learning programs.

Content:

An introduction to the study of teaching: safe operation of various power tools and static machinery; materials and their respective machining processes; advanced procedures for marking-out, cutting, forming, joining and finishing of a range of materials using appropriate aids, jigs and equipment; management and maintenance of power tools and static machinery; designing, implementing and evaluating programs in the workplace.

Assessment:

A portfolio of work equivalent to 1800 words (50%) and a critical reflection report of 1800 words drawn from a workplace learning agreement (50%).
