468-102 Learning and Thinking

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • demonstrate understanding of selected areas of the psychology of learning;

  • understand individual, social and cultural factors influencing learning;

  • compare learning and teaching or training styles; and

  • apply selected theories and models to attempt to explain thinking processes.

Content:

An introduction to selected learning theories, concrete and abstract thinking; theories of intelligence; strategies for identifying the learning needs of individuals and a consideration of individual learning, teaching and training styles and how these may affect communication in education and training.

Assessment:

A report of 1800 words (50%) and an essay of 1800 words (50%).
