Objectives: | On completion of this subject, students should be able to:

Content: | An in-depth study of the infancy period. Content will include current research findings on the emerging competencies of the infant in the perceptual-cognitive, social-emotional and communicative domains; detailed appraisal of theoretical and empirical work contributing to ongoing debate on the role of experiences in infancy on later development (models of childhood vulnerability vs resiliency); the role of various contexts, including family and non-parental child care, on infant development. | |
Assessment: | A 4000 word assignment based on a seminar presentation (80%) and a 1000 word abstract (20%). | |
