466-273 Two Dimensional Art 2B

Two Dimensional Art 1A and 1B or approved equivalent.

Contact:

A 3-hour and a 2-hour studio session each week. These sessions include practical workshops, lectures, seminars and gallery visits

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • demonstrate increased practical skill in the use of some techniques from drawing, painting and printmaking;

  • demonstrate a widening understanding of abstraction and other design processes;

  • display understanding of adult and child art within socio-cultural contexts; and

  • display understanding of a significant twentieth-century art style and/or issue.

Content:

A practical study of some of the following art forms including drawing, painting and printmaking focusing on various creative design processes. Theoretical studies will be based on major twentieth-century art styles and art within socio-cultural contexts.

Assessment:

A folio of practical work of up to five works (60%); a workbook consisting of a collection of source materials and techniques researched, and required drawing studies (20%); and a written study of up to 1000 words on an issue and/or style related to twentieth century and contemporary art (20%).
