466-272 Two Dimensional Art 2A

Contact:

A 3-hour and a 2-hour studio session each week. These sessions include practical workshops, lectures, seminars and gallery visits

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • demonstrate the practical application of a range of design processes suitable for printmaking;

  • demonstrate understanding and skill in the use of a range of printmaking media and techniques suitable for adults and children;

  • display practical knowledge of approaches to design and technique adopted by professional printmakers; and

  • demonstrate increased practical skill in the use of drawing.

Content:

A practical introduction to the techniques and design processes related to printmaking. Students will undertake exercises in drawing and composition, investigate various printmaking methods. Theoretical studies will be based on the work of significant printmakers.

Assessment:

A folio of practical work of up to five works (60%); a workbook consisting of a collection of source materials and techniques researched, and required drawing studies (30%); and a written study of up to 500 words on an aspect of printmaking (10%).
