466-258 Dance 2B: Contemporary Dance

A 2-hour workshop and a 3-hour workshop/tutorial each week

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge and appreciation of the movement vocabulary, content and form, of a range of twentieth-century dance styles;

  • demonstrate knowledge of theatre as it relates to dance for children's productions; and

  • articulate various theories of dance-making and production process in written form.

Content:

A practical and theoretical study of dance involving continued practice of movement skills within a variety of choreographic and performance context for young children. Emphasis will be placed on the innovations of modern/contemporary dancers and choreographers.

Assessment:

Practical projects equivalent to 3000 words (60%); and a project workbook of 2000 words (40%).
