466-127 Literature Studies 1B: Literature and the Young Child 2

4 hours per week, using a variety of teaching methods including lectures, seminars and workshops

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge of Australian children's literature for children 0-8;

  • compare Australian children's literature with international literature;

  • undertake textual analysis of a range of literature for children;

  • comment critically on a range of material for children; and

  • apply skills and techniques of critical analysis and appreciation to the selection and use of literature in the early childhood curriculum.

Content:

Further studies in literature for children 0 - 8, with an emphasis on Australian material.

Assessment:

A seminar paper of 1750 words, or equivalent (40%); and a essay of 2250 words, or equivalent (60%).

Prescribed Texts:

Selected literature as directed in class.
