Two 1-hour lectures and a 1-hour tutorial/workshop each week, and five field days

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • demonstrate an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the contemporary early childhood professional across a range of services;

  • appreciate some of the more significant debates about children's services that have occurred over time and that continue to impact on contemporary services;

  • demonstrate a basic understanding of the way in which children's services are affected by social, political, economic and historical forces.

Content:

Critical reflection of the historical, political, economic, social, demographic and technological influences on the roles and responsibilities of the early childhood professional working in children's services in Australia in the 1990s.

Assessment:

A 2000 word paper (50%) and a 2-hour examination (50%).
