466-116 ID Arts 1B: Music and Visual Art

Two 2.5-hour sessions per week. These sessions may include practical workshops and individual and group project work, lectures, seminars, gallery and theatre visits

Objectives:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • demonstrate, in theory and, to a limited extent, in practice, a basic knowledge and understanding of the elements of music and visual arts;

  • apply relevant skills in communicating with and teaching children; and

  • demonstrate an ability to link some of the elements of music and visual arts in practice.

Content:

A practically-oriented study which includes interdisciplinary tasks involving basic skills in music and visual arts. Extensive use will be made of tuned and non-tuned percussion instruments, voice and a range of art media.

Assessment:

Practical project work (60%); and written work of up to 1750 words or equivalent (40%).
